Made By Two
A creative endeavor shared with Peter Jacobson, to create, brand, and market a collection of handmade designer jewelry. We aim to share our love of creating beautiful with our community through small batch products made and sold locally and through an online store.
This is a true collaboration between two like minded individuals, and we work closely on all aspects from initial ideation to final physical and digital articles. My focuses include brand design, web design, and jewelry design, while Peter focuses on material sourcing, manufacturing, and photography.
INSPIRATION
We are pursuing a simple, clean aesthetic that reflects elegant minimalism. This style reflects current trends in fashion and home decoration that embraces natural materials and embodies the philosophy of "less is more". We pulled our favorite images of colors, textures, and feelings to inspire our brand and give a voice to our pieces.
DEVELOPMENT
It took several iterations to finally land on a name. We wanted to choose something that described the project, but with a little bit of room to breathe and change over time. We tried lists of objects, concepts, and symbols that represented each of us, trying to center on something that was balanced, equal, and approachable.
It started as an absentminded doodle with a brush pen, and we were immediately in love with the concept. I tried several more rigid digitized versions with various spacing, but none of them had the same charm and approachable feeling as that first quick sketch.
BRAND
The final design language stayed true to the initial sketch, with a few minor refinements to add symmetry. The friendly imperfections stayed, combined with modern linear elements, and softer handwritten subheadings.
The overall brand personality is clean, soft, and gentle. The content and experience is meant to be peaceful and meditative, embracing elegant simplicity and natural rhythm. The jewelry pieces are modern but unique, with small changes of form and balance that add an organic touch to the minimalist geometry.
FINAL PIECES
The final pieces are monolithic copper forms, lending their weight to a simple leather cord. The success of the pieces lies in their elegance and polish.
